Halsey gives the Grammys some TLC!

The Grammys are the time and place for some high fashion fuckery. You can go high concept crazy (see: CeeLo Green), or you can go tacky casual with a twist of try hard.

Halsey chose the latter. Halsey told Giuliana Rancic that her look was “a little TLC, a little Aaliyah.” When I first saw Halsey on the red carpet, I immediately got a T-Boz in the Creep video vibe.

Halsey must have realized that she couldn’t blatantly rip-off such a legendary look without receiving a cease-and-desist, and so she added her own spin. And in this case, her spin was to ditch the matching robe and walk down the red carpet with her tits out. She also went with her natural hair, which was a choice.

Personally I would have gone full-homage to T-Boz with some bangs and side-curtains. But I’ll give her a pass on this one. If she didn’t have time to steam the wrinkles out of her ensemble, I doubt she had time to clip on some hair.

“I didn’t want to wear a dress, so I figured, why not hit it with a silk number?” she says. “It’s a little TLC, a little Aaliyah, kinda ’90s R&B. I wanted to do something that was really sexy and androgynous.

“CrazySexyCool” ranked #7 in Billboard’s Diamond sales chart

There have only been 88 albums of contempoary new music, excluding compilations, that have managed to reach diamond selling status, ever!

Billboard compiled a fresh chart of albums that have sold over 10 million copies to become diamond-certified in the United States, after the mega success of Adele‘s 25 album in 2015, which became the fastest album to become diamond in less than a year!

“CrazySexyCool” was listed as the 7th most critically acclaimed album, above albums by Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Adele, Britney Spears and Shania Twain!

The remainder of the top 6 comprised of albums by Prince, Michael Jackson, The Beatles and Nirvana, respectively.

7. TLC, CrazySexyCool (1995, 11x Platinum)

So cold chillin’ that Busta Rhymes, Phife Dawg and Andre 3000 all stop by just to hang, CrazySexyCool successfully rebranded the condom-wearing candy kids of “What About Your Friends” as grown-ass women, capable of making cheating seductive, raising AIDS awareness, and flipping genders backon Prince. With a ‘90s Atlanta Braves-caliber squad of producers giving up the funk, TLC created the gold standard for ‘90s R&B… maybe for post-hip-hop R&B, period.
