The first set of TLC Funko vinyl figures were initially scheduled for release in 2020, but after a lengthy delay they were eventually released early 2021 in the style of the iconic TLC music video, 1995’s “Waterfalls.” They also came with a translucent set of rare chase editions for those lucky collectors.

Funko were quick to follow-up the debut TLC Funko’s with a release of TLC figures in 2021 based on their debut single, 1992’s “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg“.

Funko decided to gift TLC fans again in February 2022, with another TLC release. This time, Funko gave TLC the Funko Gold treatment, a set of miniature 5-inch figures, also based on the superb “Waterfalls” video.

Last year saw TLC enter the Funko Pop! Albums market in 2023. Funko made a stunning set based on TLC’s debut album, 1992’s ‘Ooooooohhh… on the TLC tip‘, complete with the original album cover in a stunning hard plastic sealed frame, perfect for wall display.

The release of the latest TLC figures from the ‘Fanmail‘ era has been a long time coming, with fans demanding for it to happen over the years. Some even resorted to having custom figures created.

What are your thoughts on the TLC “No Scrubs” Funko figures?

TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’ Becomes Their First Song To Reach 1 Billion Streams on Spotify

Congratulations are in order for TLC! The legendary girl group has finally reached the milestone of having over one billion streams of one of their hit singles on the streaming platform Spotify!

The 1999 hit single, “No Scrubs“, lifted from the album, ‘Fanmail‘, reached over a billion streams on Spotify, marking the first time a TLC track has hit this celebratory milstone. The song also celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this year.

“No Scrubs” receives an average stream count of over 830k daily, accurate at the time of writing (March 31, 2024).

It is a rare achievement for a 90s song – the 26th song from that decade to pass the milestone and the 2nd song by a 90s female artist after the Spice Girls‘ debut 1996 hit, “Wannabe”.

The EP for the single was released in full last month to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The EP featured the radio edit, instrumental, a capella and an acoustic stripped edit with Left Eye‘s rap included.

Spotify remains as one of most lucrative sources of income to be generated by musicians through streaming on its platform. Spotify also commonly awards artists with a congratulatory plaque when a record is streamed past the billion milestone.

We’re sure the epic “Waterfalls won’t be too far behind to reach the billion milestone!

TLC Celebrate ‘FanMail’ 25th Anniversary with Digital Release of EP Singles and Unseen Music Video Footage

TLC celebrated the 25th anniversary of their iconic ‘Fanmail‘ album, released on February 23, 1999!

To celebrate this milestone, the ladies surprised fans with some exclusive never-before-seen footage of behind the scenes clips from the music videos for the first two lead singles from the album, “No Scrubs” and “Unpretty“!

In new interviews for the anniversary with Sony’s legacy catalog, Legacy Recordings, T-Boz and Chilli took a trip down memory lane to discuss their feelings about the ‘Fanmail’ project.

“I was like, I’m gonna record this. This is the one!”, Chilli recalls on the first time she heard the “No Scrubs” demo with producer Shek’spere. “I knew it was a smash”.

Whilst discussing the follow up single, “Unpretty”, T-Boz explains, “It came from a personal situation of mine. Men were being verbally abusive to women, telling them to look down, telling them to look up — it couldn’t have been me! So, I thought of this word, and thought, oh, they’re making them feel un-pretty.”

“We have so many people who tell us that it helps them feel better about themselves — one of them was Lady Gaga. So, you never know who is listening and who the song touches”, T-Boz says. “I feel good!”

Fans were holding out for an anniversary edition of the album. This didn’t happen, unfortunately, but Vinyl Me, Please announced a 3rd Edition pressing of the ‘Fanmail’ album, on sale now.

You can purchase the stunning vinyl here. It comes with a limited bonus vinyl, featuring the Left Eye rap mix of “No Scrubs”, and the bonus track, “U In Me“.

Sony also finally released the complete set of EP’s from the ‘Fanmail’ era to digital platforms. This includes, “No Scrubs”, “Unpretty”, “Dear Lie” and “Silly Ho“.

MTV Animate TLC’s 1999 “No Scrubs” VMA Performance with MTV Dating Shows Nostalgia

MTV gave TLC the animated treatment last week (Sept 6) via their Video Music Awards social media, as they recreated the iconic performance of “No Scrubs” in 1999.

MTV hired the services of animation creator’s Cartuna and LotusFly Animation, who jointly collaborated on the project to produce a 3D animation mash-up of the “No Scrubs” video along with the original audio and costumes from the performance at the VMA’s!

They added a little twist by including elements of some of the most nostalgic MTV dating shows of the past, including ‘Room Raiders‘ and ‘Singled Out‘, which aid T-Boz, Chilli and Left Eye in their decisions to ditch the guys that were no good for them, as they sit on judging panel chairs reminiscent to ‘The Voice’!

TLC are a huge part of MTV and VMA history, having dominated the 1995 award show with 4 major wins including Video Of The Year, a first for a black artist at the time, trumping some major competition from Michael and Janet Jackson!

They went on to add a 5th award to their accolades in 1999, when they took home the award for Best Group, beating stiff competition from megaselling groups such as *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys!

TLC at the MTV 1995 VMA’s

It was hoped that the animation was a sign that TLC was hopefully going to be involved in the 2023 VMA’s (Sept 13) in some form, but that was not the case, unfortunately. Instead, legendary awards were presented to Diddy and Shakira this year.

So, it was unclear what the new TLC animation was commissioned for. The clip baffled TLC member Chilli, who commented, “What in the heck is this?” on the post. It might help if MTV informed the artists prior to including them in their work.

TLC most definitely deserve an honary award at the VMA’s for their impact to the culture, record-breaking album sales, and opening the doors for women to express themselves however they wish to!

We cannot deny Left Eye’s influence on the many female rappers that she has paved the way for, and to see so many of them at the 2023 VMA’s as performers including Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj, was phenomenal! It is amazing to see how far female rap has come!
