TLC Stage Musical ‘CrazySexyCool: The TLC Musical’ Set To Make World Premiere in Summer 2026

The development of the eagerly awaited TLC musical is officially in it’s final stages and set to make its premiere to the theaters in 2026!

Ever since we previously revealed back in 2018 that T-Boz and Chilli expressed interest and wishes to pursue their dream to create a TLC musical, they have be gradually gearing up to making it become a reality.

According to an announcement via The Hollywood Reporter, the musical is described as a “semi-biographical” look at the chart-topping girl group.

The musical about girl group TLC will make its world premiere in Washington D.C. next summer.

Written and directed by Olivier-Award winner Kwame Kwei-Armah, ‘CrazySexyCool: The TLC Musical’ will premiere at Arena Stage Theater from June 12, 2026 through Aug. 9. The musical is described as a “semi-biographical” look at the chart-topping girl group, which produced hits such as “No Scrubs,” “Waterfalls” and “Unpretty.”

The musical will feature pre-existing songs from TLC. Chloe O. Davis will choreograph the show. Kwei-Armah also wrote and directed ‘One Love: The Bob Marley Musical‘.

“TLC is synonymous with rebellion — using their art to challenge, subvert and entertain,” Kwei-Armah said. “Why a musical? Why now? Their lives need to be sung. It’s about that time!”

An official Instagram account for the TLC musical went live today, as well as an account on Twitter/X.

No word on if TLC will indeed record new music to accompany the project, which they had previously expressed plans to do.

“Bringing this story to the stage is a dream come true,” Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins told Playbill. “We have performed in a lot of different venues all over the world throughout our career, but bringing our story and music to the theater is a totally new and exciting challenge.”

“We have some of the best people in the business working on this project,” said Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. “Audiences will get to hear our story—mostly fact with a sprinkle of fiction – told in our own way, and of course it’s set to all your favorite hits!”

Bill Diggins, whose Diggit Theatrical Group is producing the musical, said in a press release: “TLC completely changed the game. Their music gave a voice to women everywhere, empowering them to be confident and unapologetic. But this isn’t just a story about the music; it’s about the sisterhood between these women and what kept them together through both unimaginable challenges and chart-topping success.”

DJ Pessto Hired to Officially Remix TLC’s ‘Creep’ for 30th Anniversary of ‘CrazySexyCool’

TLC‘s iconic sophomore album, ‘CrazySexyCool‘, celebrates the 30th anniversary since its release on November 14th, 1994!

The first single released from the album, “Creep“, was released on October 31st, 1994 and became their first ever number one single on the Billboard Hot 100.

To celebrate its milestone this year, Sony Music and its legacy department Legacy Recordings have recruited the services of superstar DJ Pessto to work his magic on a remix of “Creep”!

Predrag Stojkov, or better known as Pessto is a young Serbian DJ, record producer and songwriter on a mission to bring his passion for electronic dance music to the world’s biggest stages. Over the last couple of years, the 24-year old has been busy in the studio, preparing the storm of new songs that’s about to take over the global music scene.

A new chapter began in 2022 with his massive debut on legendary Ministry Of Sound Records (Sony Music), joining the record label’s exciting roster which includes stellar names like: Doja Cat, Riton, Sigala, Oliver Heldens, Disciples and more.

Pessto teamed up with the dance music titan Paul Woolford in 2022 on “Can You Pay?“, a highly anticipated electronic working of the iconic 90s R&B classic ‘Bills, Bills, Bills’ by Destiny’s Child.

Pessto’s most recent release was in May to assist Jennifer Lopez with a spectacular remix of her hit, “Waiting For Tonight“, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her debut album, ‘On The 6‘.

Pessto took to his social media to announce his TLC remix on November 4th. “You can’t think about the ‘90s without thinking of TLC”, Pesso said. “The legendary trio made history as the best-selling female group of all time, delivering countless hits and shaping the future of R&B”.

“I’m beyond thrilled to share that I had the honor of working on an official remix for their Grammy-winning classic, “Creep”!”, Pessto continued. “Dropping this Friday on Arista/ LaFace Records!”

The Pessto “Creep” remix will be released on Friday 8th November, 2024 on all streaming platforms.

What are your thoughts on the Pessto remix of “Creep”? How would you like TLC to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘CrazySexyCool’?

TLC Cancels Australian and New Zealand 2024 ‘CrazySexyCool’ Tour

TLC are unfortunately unable to continue with the New Zealand and Australian leg of their upcoming 30th anniversary of ‘CrazySexyCool’ tour this year.

In a statement issued to fans on social media on January 19, the iconic group state: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of our upcoming tour”.

The iconic American girl group were meant to perform at Trusts Arena alongside guests En Vogue and Busta Rhymes on February 29, before heading across the ditch to Australia.

But with just over a month to go, the band revealed the Downunder stop on their CrazySexyCool Anniversary tour has been canned “due to unforeseen circumstances”.

“We sincerely apologize for any disappointment to our fans. Your support means everything, and we promise to make it up to you. We can’t wait to be back in your beautiful countries soon”, the statement concluded.

Fans were quick to speculate reasons for the tour cancellation, including concern for Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, who suffers with the health condition sickle cell Thalassemia.

T-Boz informed fans that she was doing “great”, she was not sick, and that the tour cancellation was for “business reasons” not for health reasons.

TLC’s long-term manager, Bill Diggins, also stepped in to ask fans to refrain from assuming TLC’s tour situation was due to T-Boz’s health, reminding everyone that the TLC icon has performed at over 50 shows without becoming sick, and made it clear that assuming the worst can lead to a false narrative about the group and the health of the members.

“All please stop talking about Tionne and her health in relation to these dates”, Diggins stated on the TLC Army instagram post. “Tionne has absolutely nothing to do with the cancellation of these shows. Tionne has performed over 50 shows a year without any problems, so I wish you would just stop insinuating that is Tionne’s health. This creates a false [narrative] that spreads false rumours”.

Patrons need not do anything as all purchased tickets will be refunded to the original method of purchase automatically.

Stay tuned to find out when TLC are able to announce their next venture to Australia and New Zealand in the near future!

For now, the ladies will be gearing up for their trip to Japan in March to head out on tour with the legendary Janet Jackson on her 2024 ‘Together Again‘ tour!

TLC are also excited to be headlining their own show in Japan on March 18 at the Toyosu PIT, Tokyo to celebrate 30 years of CrazySexyCool!
