Left Eye’s ‘Supernova’ Album Will Be Released to Streaming Platforms ‘When The Time Is Right’, Says Her Sister Reigndrop Lopes

This week marks 22 years since the tragic passing of the iconic, trendsetting and the center of TLC, the dearly beloved Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

It is an annual tradition for TLC and Left Eye fans to request the release of the debut solo album of Left Eye, ‘Supernova‘, to streaming platforms, on her birthday. And this was no different on the 22nd anniversary of her passing.

To put things into perspective, Left Eye’s album was partially released in 2001, excluding the United States after a lackluster reception to her solo single, “The Block Party“.

Following the tragic loss of Left Eye in April 2002, the future of her solo career was left in limbo, and the rights to her material were put on hold.

The Lopes family had released a tribute album in 2009 via Mass Appeal in the form of ‘Eye Legacy‘ — a compilation of remixed tracks taken from her original album, ‘Supernova’.

Left Eye’s posthumous album, ‘Eye Legacy’ (2009)

‘Eye Legacy’ received mixed reviews, and the majority of fans preferred to have the original album released in its entirety, the way in which Left Eye would have wanted. ‘Supernova’ was a body of work that she was proud of, and it should be kept intact and released to honor her wishes.

Left Eye’s younger sister, Reigndrop Lopes, finally gained control and ownership of the masters for the original ‘Supernova’ album in 2021. Fans have been excited at the news, and Reigndrop hinted that she may release the album on the date Lisa initially wanted it to be released on, August 16.

However, three years have passed since the announcement, and the album has yet to be seen on any streaming platforms. “My family own Lisa’s masters, so you don’t have to go to anyone else to ask them to put it out on streaming”, Reigndrop said in 2021.

“We’re working on it, we’re working on a lot of other stuff, so just be patient. Timing is everything, it’s going to come out when it’s supposed to come out. Just know that your voices are being heard and we’re working on it. A lot of things are happening at the same time which is overwhelming, so we have to pace it out. But it will be out, I promise”.

“We’re working to release ‘Supernova’ to streaming on the date that she originally wanted her album to be released”, Reigndrop announced in 2022. “And if you’re a real fan you already know what the date is, so I don’t have to say it”. Although she added that “plans can change”, she was adamant that,”That date meant something to Lisa, so we’re going to stick to that”.

When questioned about the topic of the album release in 2024, Reigndrop decided to clear the air and make it clear that nothing was set in stone. “Life happens and no promises were made!”, Reigndrop states. “Rest assured, it will be released at the right time. Sometimes things don’t happen when you want them to, but when they need to”.

So, the bottom line is, the album will be released on streaming platforms when the time is right. Reigndrop teased details of a Left Eye biopic in the works in 2022, and that she was working with executive producer Grammy and Oscar winning Elizabeth Hubbard.

The Lopes family will be hosting their first ever annual Left Eye Wellness Expo and birthday party on Sunday, May 26, 2024 to honor Lisa’s memory and legacy.

The location will be at The Atrium, 5479 Memorial Dr. Stone Mountain, GA 30083.

During the event Reigndrop was joined on stage by her brother Ron Lopes and Cemetery Tim, who created the new headstone for Lisa. Reigndrop also met Marqueze Ethridge for the first time and she was delighted to be informed that he co-wrote the TLC classic, “Waterfalls“.

Reigndrop hosted the event via Facebook and Instagram simultaneously whilst she jammed to a selection of TLC’s biggest hits, and was notably unimpressed at the album version of “No Scrubs” being played without Lisa’s iconic rap verse. The Facebook live stream became problematic with the use of copyrighted music being played, so Reigndrop switched it to music from Left Eye’s ‘Supernova‘ and happily told Facebook she owns this music, so they can’t shut her live feed down for using it.

Fans were delighted to learn that the ‘Supernova‘ album was on the verge of receiving it’s full worldwide release on streaming platforms after continuous demand from the fans. As we know, Lisa’s debut solo album received a limited release in Japan and the UK and was scrapped from receiving a US release.

“We’re working to release ‘Supernova’ to streaming on the date that she originally wanted her album to be released”, Reigndrop announced. “And if you’re a real fan you already know what the date is, so I don’t have to say it”. Although she added that “plans can change”, she was adamant that,”That date meant something to Lisa, so we’re going to stick to that”.

Of course, the date Reigndrop was referring to was August 16th, which was the original date Lisa wanted her album to be released in 2001. Lisa was drawn to this date in particular for a special reason. “My father died on August 16th and his father was born on August 16th”, Lisa explained to MTV News. “And then on January 31st, was the day that [my father] was born and [his father] died. So, they came in and out of each others dates. It’s a very significant release date”.

Reigndrop was also excited to reveal that she is producing a brand new Left Eye documentary.

Energy Never Dies… Happy Birthday Lisa!

The Silent Auction will be live until June 3, 2022. Visit www.Lefteye20th.betterworld.org to place your bids and own a piece of Left Eye history!

Left Eye’s Solo Album ‘Supernova’ Confirmed To Be Released On Streaming Platforms

InShot_20200528_045734012

Ever since the debut solo album by the ‘L’ of TLC, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, was denied a US release by Arista Records back in 2001, fans all over the world have been craving it’s presence in the digital era — the album, ‘Supernova‘ was only released in Japan and Europe, and still til this day has not been made available on any streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and Google Play.

Over the years fans of the album began finding creative ways to get the album the justice that it deserved. Last year, Jordan Cooper, who runs the popular Left Eye fanpage/site The Eye is Right, began a petition to help the album achieve justice with a full release to digital platforms. The petition gained a lot of interest and it later became clear that the album was not owned by Sony as previously thought.

Things began to look brigher for ‘Supernova’ this week. Lisa’s sister, Reigndrop Lopes, joined a live chat on Instagram with Shekinah Anderson to celebrate the life of Left Eye on her Birthday — she would have turned 49 on this day (May 27). During the chat Reigndrop told fans that she had acquired the rights to the full ‘Supernova’ album!

Reigndrop is very aware that fans really want this spiritual masterpiece available on all streaming platforms, so she promised to make that happen. She said that she has the rights to do whatever she wants with it. However, she said that she didn’t just want to put it out there, she wanted to do it right and release it at the right time.

In another live chat on Instagram, this time inviting fans to join her for a joint live chat, she further confirmed details about her plans for ‘Supernova’ when she spoke to Jordan, who asked her some specific questions about the release. She will indeed release the album in it’s original form to digital platforms, which will please the fans of the original album.

In the absence of the album, fans have been making the most of the only other Left Eye album online, 2009’s ‘Eye Legacy‘, released by Mass Appeal, which remixed the majority of the tracks on ‘Supernova’. Fanpage Ultimate TLC as well as The Eye is Right used the album as a basis for a streaming party on Left Eye’s birthday this year.

Reigndrop also revealed that she is still working on a script for the upcoming Left Eye biopicwhich she will be executive producing. She will also be in charge of casting the actors who will need to fit all the criteria to fit the role of playing Lisa in the movie. Reigndrop says the biopic will go into more depth of Lisa’s childhood and upbringing to help fans know how she became the woman we all grew to know and love.

Reigndrop is also still working on a book of memoirs about her sister. She wants the book to include the insights of people that have known Lisa. The book with Hype Williams, based on Lisa’s book ‘Open‘ — the original idea to feature an exclusive photo shoot she did with him is also still in the works, which Reigndrop will be a part of.
