Chilli: “R. Kelly Was Muted Years Ago When He Married A Child!”

Chilli has made it very clear she is not a supporter of R. Kelly.

She hasn’t only just cancelled R. Kelly because of the recent Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly, which documented the historic and recent sexual abuse his victims endured.

Chilli has had Kelly on the block list for over 20 years, back when he illegally married an underaged singer, the late Aaliyah, whilst she was only 15 years old.

Speaking to TMZ this week in Atlanta, she said: “It didn’t take me to see a documentary to know the truth. I mean, he was cancelled years ago in my book after marrying a 15-year-old child.”

Regarding Kelly’s denial over the sex cult allegations, she said: “And then on top of that, I saw the tape at the studio with a whole bunch of other people, and I was just like, ‘He’s going to jail.’ I saw it, I was like, ‘He’s going to jail.’ And then when I heard he denied it I was like ‘What!’

“How can you deny that?” she said before mentioning TLC’s biggest hit. “That’s like me saying that’s not me on the swing in the ‘No Scrubs‘ video!”

Chilli’s feelings towards R. Kelly come as no surprise to TLC fans. Back in 2003, whilst Chilli and T-Boz were guest hosting a video countdown show, 106 & Park on BET, Chilli pretended to be asleep during the airing of R. Kelly’s ‘Ignition‘ remix video as a form of protest against him.

“When you’re young, that frontal lobe hasn’t closed up yet. So, your reasoning and all that kind of stuff, it’s not there, it’s not developed”, Chilli continues. “But the person older than you, should know better.”

And she doesn’t feel like the parents should take all the heat away from the main perpetrator. “People are like, ‘it’s the parents, it’s the parents’… it’s them as well. It’s not just one person, but it’s definitely the monsters, for sure.”

As well as hoping to collab with Weezer in the future, following their ‘No Scrubs’ cover which went viral, Chilli also mentions that she has a major tour announcement coming soon, so stay tuned!

Chilli Approves Weezer’s ‘No Scrubs’ And Wants TLC To Perform With Them

On Thursday, Weezer followed up the surprising success of their 2018 cover of Toto’s persistent hit “Africa” with The Teal Album, a collection of 10 faithful covers by the rock band ranging from Black Sabbath (“Paranoid”) to Michael Jackson (“Billie Jean”). The most surprising — and immediate fan favorite — has been the group’s take on TLC’s 1999 megahit “No Scrubs.” Speaking to Rolling Stone, TLC’s Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas co-signed the ebullient cover.

“When I heard it, I loved it! They did a great job,” Chilli tells Rolling Stone. She hadn’t heard about Weezer’s plans to cover the track until the album dropped and has witnessed a “flood” of opinions from her trio’s fans. “I hope we can perform it together.”

Prior to hearing the fuzzy, alt-rock take on the Fanmail single, Chilli has not exactly followed Weezer. She was as surprised as anyone by the group’s choice to tackle the R&B track amidst mostly classic rock reinterpretations.

“I’m definitely familiar with the group,” she adds, though she laughs off the possibility of TLC ever swapping positions with Weezer and covering one of their songs. “I totally get why any girl would do it, but when guys do it I go, ‘Clearly, they’re not scrubs.’ If they were scrubs, they wouldn’t sing the song with this type of confidence,” she adds. It reflects a similar sentiment to singer Rivers Cuomo’s own explanation for how the band chose to approach the song in the album breakdown on Apple Music.

“I just thought it was one of those songs that’s freakishly popular,” he said. “I was trying to decide which gender perspective to sing it from, then I saw this tweet that said, ‘If you’re a guy covering a song by a girl, you gotta keep the pronouns. For those three minutes, you’re gay.’ So I was like, ‘Cool, let’s try this.’”

She also expressed admiration for the group’s tenacity when it came to singing a Jackson hit like “Billie Jean” for the album. “You gotta be pretty brave to do any of his songs, no matter who you are,” she says, jokingly referring to the late pop star as “the only husband I’ve ever had.”

Prior to Weezer’s cover, Chilli has appreciated Bette Midler’s “Waterfalls” as well as any time Hanson has tackled the girl group’s discography. She’s honored that new life continues to be breathed into all of their music.

“It feels really good because when you’re in the studio working, you hope and pray that you make songs that have longevity. And we have, so that’s a blessing. I’m telling you, I wanna reach out to [Weezer] and try to make this performance happen!”

Our thoughts are completely with our girl T-Boz right now!

The TLC superstar, who also suffers with the long-term condition of sickle cell anemia, is suffering with the flu at the moment, and as a result she will be unable to fulfil the scheduled TLC shows for Hard Rock this weekend.

However, ticket holders for these shows at Hard Rock Live Orlando on January 25 and Hard Rock Casino Biloxi on January 26 will be able to keep their tickets for the new dates on June 28 & 29.

In a statement, T-Boz said: “We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused but we need to reschedule this date. Flu season has hit home and my doctors have instructed me that I cannot travel, but I look forward to seeing y’all in June!”

Tickets will be fulfilled on the newly announced dates, and those who cannot attend the rescheduled dates may receive a refund at the original point of purchase.

We wish T-Boz a very speedy recovery!

T-Boz aka Sheila Watkins Bags Herself VIP Sade Tickets!

2.1-domore_thearena_header-1

In the office, Sheila (Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins) listens to her tunes with headphones while Abe (James  Reynolds) yells at someone on a call. He complains about people facing consequences when they make mistakes.

He has two VIP tickets to Sade for Valerie (Vanessa Williams) but she had to cancel. Sheila tells him to go anyway. Abe invites her along.

Sheila says, “You’re my boss and you just asked me on a date.” Lani (Sal Stowers) and Eli (Lamon Archey) waltz in and Lani asks, “He did what now?” Abe explains. They tell him about the missing footage. His office and Salem SPD and John Black are the only ones who have access.

Sheila says John was there earlier to ask for the footage. She tells them how hot he is and she swooned over his sexy accent. Lani’s confused, “What accent?” Sheila flashes to meeting a man in a suit – but it wasn’t John, it was Xander (Paul Telfer)!

He conned her. She flashes to asking for ID and “John” confessing he forgot it, then swearing he was really John Black. Sheila was distracted by his muscles and when Eli shows his photo, Sheila confirms that’s him.

Lani and Eli go and Abe blows up. Sheila’s sorry. She admits her mistake but reminds him it won’t look good at HR. He asked her out on a date and then fires her?

“How’s that gonna look, Boss?”, Sheila threatens. Abe sighs and ends up giving Sheila the Sade tickets.

There’s only one question remaining — who will she invite as her date to the sold out VIP Sade concert?
