Funko To Release TLC Pop! Rocks Vinyl Figures

InShot_20200816_022202377

Update (Oct 8) — we have been informed that the TLC Pop! Rocks will likely be announced and revealed later this month, with plans for a December 2020 release!

After months of speculation it seems that our TLC girls may finally get their own set of Funko Pop! vinyl figures, according to the Funko fan page Funko POP News!

Rumors began back in June when a list of upcoming Funko Pops! circulated online in the fan community including ‘Chase‘ figures of T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli. ‘Chase‘ releases are known to be limited edition.

New releases posted on June 27 / Pop o’clock/fb

Fans have hung onto hope of the rumors becoming a reality, so the news of the TLC figures coming soon is very much welcomed (as soon as September, possibly).

Funko have a very male-dominated roster of Pop! vinyls already, so with last years addition of the hip-hop girl group Salt-N-Pepa being graced with their own figures in the Pop! Rocks line, it was just a matter of time for the legendary TLC to be honored in the same way.

We’ll keep you posted on if and when the TLC Pop! Rocks are going to be released!

In the meantime, have a peep at how the TLC Pop! figures may look, with this amazing fan created version! (Thanks for sharing, Carl)!

Cardi B Tributes Left Eye In Latest Music Video “WAP”

InShot_20200807_155914188

The phenomenal hip-hop rapper Cardi B is making a big return in 2020 with a helping hand from Megan Thee Stallion on her latest single, “WAP“, and she once again pays homage to a very special person, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

Cardi B decided to rock a hairstyle in the music video based on the style Left Eye wore at the Soul Train Awards 2000, created by TLC’s long-time hairstylist, Marie Brown (formerly Davis), who is now the owner of Atlanta’s Glamorazzi Salon.

Referencing the afro-futuristic braids, Marie explains how she came up with the creation. “The circles are the little round pieces of styrofoam. Styrofoam from Michael’s. You wrap them around, and they’re just braided on and connected onto her hair. I was just always trying to do something different. I was trying to always reach a different level with her and she was just free to do it.”

Cardi B is no stranger to paying homage to TLC. She previously wore another style like Lisa’s at her Coachella debut in 2018, and also has name dropped Left Eye and TLC in numerous tracks on her debut album, ‘Invasion Of Privacy‘.

Some fans on the Left Eye fanpage The Eye Is Right also noted other similarities in the music video. The scene with Megan and Cardi looking thorough the other rooms is reminiscent of TLC’s “Hands Up” video. And the end scene of the girls running away is very similar to TLC’s “Dear Lie” video, where Lisa knocks on a door and quickly runs away.

Xscape Challenge TLC and SWV to a Verzuz Battle!

TLC SWV XSCAPE VERZUZ 2020

The R&B groups of the 90’s aren’t done with the topic of a girl group 90’s Verzuz battle just yet. Tamika Scott of the group Xscape today (July 29, 2020) gave Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins a public reply, in response to T-Boz saying she would willingly battle the any of groups back in May. “It would have to be in a ‘nice and love’ way, a friendly competition”, she insisted.

Tamika reached out to T-Boz via Instagram, to inform her that she has the blessing of her group mate Tameka “Tiny” Harris and SWV member Lelee Lyons. Tamika said, “Okay T-Boz, I hear you… I spoke with Tiny last night and I spoke with Lelee today. We’re here for it, let’s do it for the culture! Let’s have some fun ladies!!”

It is currently unclear how three groups could carry out a head-to-head challenge, but if the technicalities can be figured out this would be an epic Verzuz episode, breaking the boundaries and making new rules for a three-way challenge for the first time.

As long as one member from each group agrees, this could finally happen. The Verzuz team have already teased some interest in the acts included in this challenge, so it’s just a waiting game.

Would your money be on TLC, SWV or Xscape?

TLC’s Last Album Reaches It’s First Year Anniversary!

(Originally posted on June 30, 2018).

It’s been a long, long time coming“, the opening line from ‘Way Back‘, the first single lifted from TLC‘s first album in 15 years, which was released a year ago today on June 30, 2017!

After breaking the record for the fastest Kickstarter funded pop project ever in 2015 (they raised over $430k and smashed their $150k deadline in under 48 hours), the girls were finally ready to unleash their hard work to the world, independently on their own label, 852 Musiq.

The album went on to become the #1 Independent Album on Billboard and topped the R&B Album Charts in the UK and in other parts of the world, whilst the lead single ‘Way Back’ remained in the Adult R&B singles chart for months.

The girls were toying with the idea of releasing another single from the album and even a remix album (two remixes were made exclusively for the Japan version of the album). However, this did not come to fruition.

We are still super stoked about this solid body of work produced by T-Boz and Chilli.

The essence of Left Eye‘s is ever present on the record, too — through a shout out on “No Introduction“, where they sing “Left Eye still here, irreplaceable position“, and an interlude featuring Left Eye talk about her wishes and aspirations.
